Classic New Zealand Wine Trail

Classic New Zealand Wine Trail

Marketing itself as New Zealand’s premier gourmet journey, the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is tapping into to the growing number of travellers keen to experience quality New Zealand food and beverages.

The 380km Trail features more than 100 wineries and hundreds of farmers markets, eateries and artisan food producers as it journeys through Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Wellington and Marlborough.

“This is a gourmet motoring holiday that visitors can design to suit their taste,” says the Trail’s Marketing Manager Lucy Chambers.

“As well as eating and drinking, visitors are also encouraged to experience regional attractions, such as Hawke’s Bay Art Deco architecture and wildlife tours, historic towns of the Wairarapa, shopping in Wellington and fishing, and kayaking the waterways of the Marlborough Sounds as they find their way to potentially more than 40 cellar doors!”

A selection of itineraries offer suggestions, designed to target difference audiences such as luxury and romance, outdoors and adventure, art and culture and families. A comprehensive brochure also helps visitors make the most of their trail.

Operators who provide a quality wine/food/tourism experience and/or who work with their respective Regional Tourism Organisation have the Trail logo stuck on their business window or door. Ms Chambers says this lets visitors know those operators aim to deliver a world class wine and food experience. The logo, recently refreshed, mimics the grape symbol found on more than 100 road signs along the main highways of the trail.

“Tourism operators are really getting behind the logo sticker – they realise it will open the door to visitors,” explains Ms Chambers.

She says the Trail is backed by the Regional Tourism Organisations from the four regions that see the benefit of working collaboratively to encourage visitors to travel off the beaten track while in New Zealand.

The Trial has also had excellent uptake from the international travel sellers, with more than 100 CNZWT holiday packages currently being marketed around the world.
