Temporary Work Permits Update
Outdoor Adventure Guide Pilot
After representations from members late last year, TIA approached Immigration New Zealand (INZ) with concerns about the difficulty of some employers meeting the requirement for 30 hours of work per week in occupations that are highly weather dependent, particularly in the case of skilled outdoor adventure guides on temporary work permits.
In response, the Minister of Immigration has agreed to waive the 30 hour per week requirement for these workers. However, because this represents a departure from normal immigration requirements, the waiver is being run as a pilot so the outcomes can be evaluated at the end and an informed decision can be made whether or not to amend immigration policy. The pilot ends in September 2013.
