Temporary Work Permits Update

Outdoor Adventure Guide Pilot
After representations from members late last year, TIA approached Immigration New Zealand (INZ) with concerns about the difficulty of some employers meeting the requirement for 30 hours of work per week in occupations that are highly weather dependent, particularly in the case of skilled outdoor adventure guides on temporary work permits.
In response, the Minister of Immigration has agreed to waive the 30 hour per week requirement for these workers. However, because this represents a departure from normal immigration requirements, the waiver is being run as a pilot so the outcomes can be evaluated at the end and an informed decision can be made whether or not to amend immigration policy.  The pilot ends in September 2013.

In July 2009 New Zealand's tourism and hospitality sectors reached agreement with Immigration New Zealand and Work and Income on a more streamlined application process for holders of temporary work permits. Read the media release about this agreement.

The process sets out a step-by-step guide that begins three months before the applicant's permit expires. Click on the document below for more details.
